A member of the Kansas City police department has reportedly been arrested and charged with drunk driving, assault and various other offenses stemming from an arrest earlier this week. The officer has been suspended from the department without pay for the duration of the court proceedings.

According to police reports, the DWI arrest occurred in Clay County, Missouri, in the early morning hours. A trooper with the Missouri Highway Patrol pulled the 29-year-old Kansas City officer after allegedly spotting her swerving in and out of her lane and traveling up the curb that separates the two directions of traffic.

When the trooper stopped the vehicle, the Kansas City officer allegedly failed a series of field sobriety tests. It is unclear whether the trooper ever performed a breath or other chemical blood alcohol test on the officer.

When the trooper attempted to place her under arrest, the officer reportedly began to resist arrest, scratching the trooper on the neck with her fingernails and attempting to head-but a second trooper. When the officer was taken to the Clay County Detention Center, it reportedly took seven officers to place her in a restraint chair, according to the police report.

Now, the officer is facing charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, lane violation, resisting arrest and assault of a law enforcement officer. She was suspended from the Kansas City Police Department without pay and will reportedly remain on suspension until the case is resolved. It is not known how she plans to plea to the charges filed against her.
